New Orleans - 3 Years Post Katrina

July 15, 2008 / by rayreggie

Why stay in question that I hear and other residents hear constantly.  Why Katrina's flood waters ruined our hometown, forever!?!?!?

The question we were asked almost daily following the worst natural disaster in the country was "When will New Orleans be back to what it was?"  The true answer is Never!  It's a sad answer, but a true one.   We have lost so much.  The failed rescue and lack of leadership in the recovery have all ripped the fiber of one of the greatest cities in America.  We had a lot of Pre-Katrina problems, but, the positives outweighed the negatives and we learned to accept the flaws because the food, entertainment, culture and gratification were so stimulating.

Now almost three years, I look back and see a crime filled city that has a dismal lack of sufficient infrastructure and one that is financially and morally bankrupt under insignificant leadership.   The compass heading for New Orleans is one that shows confusion.  The dial of the compass spins helplessly with no set direction.   Without leadership, a pragmatic plan and the resources to accomplish the colossal task, it is doomed.  Enough said.  New Orleans will never be the city it was.  It's a very sad, but realistic conclusion.  It hurts.

Ray Reggie, I agree. New Olreans is nothing like it was pre-Katrina. Less business, less people, more crime. It stinks!
